Chief Information Officer - Dr. Alma Barranco-Mendoza, B.Sc. Hons., M.Sc., Ph.D.
Alma has been fascinated with space and technology since she was a young girl. She joined the CSS in 2013 to lead the development of the CSS's new web infrastructure and enterprise social networking site to increase social participation, collaboration, and mobility by porting all the Canadian Space Society's strategic systems onto the cloud and integrating them with social media. For this project, she and the CSS were awarded the Frost & Sullivan's 2015 CIO Impact Award in Enterprise Social Networking. She is co-chairing the Canadian Space Summit 2015 in Vancouver, BC and was one of the finalists in the 2015 YWCA Women of Distinction Award in Technology, Science, and Research.
She is a seasoned business executive and entrepreneur, with over 25 years of technology experience working within multiple sectors. She held top information technology positions at Trinity Western University and NerdForce prior to joining the CSS.
As an entrepreneur, she co-founded Infogenetica Consulting Services, a health informatics and technology consulting group, and more recently, she co-founded the spin off company Infogenetica Natural Products Ltd., which manufactures and commercializes new natural health and dietary supplements developed for mental and cardiovascular health.
She holds a Ph.D. in Computing Science, with focus on Artificial Intelligence, from Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, BC, and M.Sc. and B.Sc. Hons. in Computer Sc. and Mathematics from Trent University in Peterborough, ON.
