The Ottawa Chapter of the Canadian Space Society is pleased to announce a Call for Papers for the upcoming Canadian Space Summit to be held 19-21 November in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
The Canadian Space Summit is an annual conference that brings together all elements of the Canadian space industry. In addition to displays, booths, and activities, the centerpiece of the Summit are two days of paper sessions covering a wide variety of topics. Read more here or submit an abstract.

White House Sets Out to Reform Export Controls |

President Obama has unveiled a plan to streamline and make more consistent the nation’s export controls on weapons and commercial technologies that have a potential for military use.
In a videotaped message to an August 31 export controls conference, the president said his reform will fundamentally change what is controlled and how it is controlled within a system that covers tens of thousands of items. Read more at PressZoom.

Col. Chris Hadfield will become the first Canadian astronaut to command the International Space Station.
Hadfield will launch aboard a Soyuz spacecraft late in 2012, Gary Goodyear, minister of state for science and technology, told a news conference Thursday in Longueuil, Que. The exact date of the launch has not been set, but it will likely be in either late November or early December.

This series puts young professionals in the pilot's seat as their questions are posed to the industry's top space experts. Hosted by the Canadian Space Society's president, Kevin Shortt, this new series promises to bring an unparalleled behind-the-scenes perspective on the issues shaping the international space industry. First up in this new series is Canadian astronaut, Bob Thirsk, fresh from his cross-Canada tour promoting his recent mission to the International Space Station in 2009.
